Chapter 18
Major Gates
I knew that my kids would be hurt when I dropped the bombshells on them, but it was something that needed to be done. Jordin was older, so he took shit better than Beautii. She was more fragile, which is why we felt it was best that we shielded her from a lot of the things that were going on.
Some of you may be shaking your heads at me, but you have to understand my position. I did what I thought I had to do to protect my family and I wouldn’t apologize for that, in fact, I would do it all over again if I had to.
You see I grew up in Kingston, Jamaica. My father Lennox Bathurst was a cold man but on a crazy day he met my mother Aolani Kapule. The way the story was told to me is that Aolani and her family were visiting Jamaica, one day at the beach she met a mysterious man with a heavy accent named Lennox.
For the entire two weeks my mother was in Jamaica, she was with my father. In those two weeks, they fell in love and my father took her virginity. When Aolani got back to Hawaii, her heart ached for Lennox. Two months later she found out she was pregnant with me, once Lennox found out, he wanted her with him.
So at seventeen, Aolani bought a one way ticket to Jamaica and never looked back. Lennox Bathurst was the son of Max Bathurst, the leader of the Kingston Warriors, one of the most dangerous cartels to ever come out of Jamaica. At the tender age of twelve, my father trained me to one day take his place.
I moved to the states to push our work and that’s how I originally met Alana. She was a bad Spanish mami, thick in all the right places. I was a young twenty year old nigga new to the states so I wasn’t trying to settle down. I made that clear to Alana but I think she thought she could change me.
A year after I arrived in Florida, my father came up with the bright idea for me to join the DEA. I was against it at first because I hated the fucking police, but pops was persistent and made me see that there was a bigger picture involved.
“Son dis wi be gud fi wi organization, mi ave people pon mi payroll but mi nuh truss dem yuh a mi son mi truss yuh,” he told me.
“Mi hate di babylon an yuh kno dat, mi ave no interest inna joining them!” I replied getting aggravated.
“Ok son but let mi aks yuh dis, yuh wudda radda kno everything dem ave gawn or yuh wudda radda dem blindside yuh?”
I thought on it for a moment and I knew he was right. I didn’t want to join the fucking pigs, but I would do anything I had to do to keep us out of jail.
“Fine mi wi dweet,” I finally responded.
